Abstract

This paper proposes an Adaptive Security-Margin Tracing for Hosting Capacity (ASMT-HC) method for photovoltaic (PV) integration in radial distribution networks (DNs). The method combines voltage, branch-loading, and reverse-power-flow margins through a Composite Security Margin to directly track the active operating boundary without weighting coefficients. An adaptive PV-increment strategy accelerates the search when the system is far from the boundary, while bisection refinement improves accuracy near the feasible–infeasible transition. The proposed method is evaluated on the 33-bus and 69-bus radial DNs and compared with PSO, GWO, HHO, DE, and MPA under identical operating constraints. Results show that ASMT-HC achieves hosting capacities of 2190 kW and 2540 kW for the two test systems, respectively, while requiring substantially lower computational effort. The method also provides fully repeatable solutions with zero run-to-run variation, demonstrating efficient, accurate, and deterministic HC assessment.
